UPDATE June 28th: Comic Heroes arrived today! Enjoyed Talbot and Ewing the most (my favorite art style in the comics they showed). Also liked The Playwriter preview. Not new, just looks fresh, again, with so much comic art looking alike today. RO Review? The writer has a right to his thoughts, but personally, I think people should get The Rainbow Orchid, themselves. It is well priced and also in a growing collection of libraries now, especially in the UK. And the easiest place to check out is right online at Rainbow Orchid! Be your own judge. As they said about RO, the artwork is glorious. The story maybe your 'cup of tea' too, but you won't know, until you find out for yourself.

Adventures of Julius Chancer Garen Ewing: Podcast interview about The Rainbow Orchid Host Linda Wada, Table Chat, ednapurviance.org Garen Ewing, the comic artist and creator of The Rainbow Orchid - the Adventures of Julius Chancer, graciously agreed to an audio interview with me (Linda Wada, researcher and founder of ednapurviance.org). I wholeheartedly thank Garen for a most enjoyable chat about his long awaited publication of The Rainbow Orchid. I first met Garen in the spring of 2001 and soon learned about the creation of The Rainbow Orchid. Set in the 1920s, The Rainbow Orchid features adventurous Julius Chancer and silent film star, Lily Lawrence, along with a strong supporting cast of characters including: the devious Evelyn Crow, historical researcher Sir Alfred Catesby-Grey, Lily's publicity agent Nathanial Crumpole, mysterious Urkaz Grope and leading gossip columnist and stirrer of trouble, William Pickle. All of them are involved on an adventure to find the mythical flower last mentioned by the ancient Greek philosopher and botanist, Theophrastus. Julius must find it to save the estate of Lily's father, Sir Lawrence. Drawn in the Franco-Belgian school of bande dessinée (a clear line style), the comic has great characters, a complex story and quality artwork. Garen's comic quickly became my favorite and I have been following the development of the story and project ever since. You never know for sure, but I always had faith it would be picked up by a publisher one day, and that day has finally arrived.
Garen gives his personal insight on drawing and the world of publishing, (with surprises intermixed). Garen's love of silent films does play a role in the creation of his comic. Garen's book features silent film star, Lily Lawrence, who Edna Purviance is her friend. We hope you will enjoy listening to his story, and maybe gain some valuable insights through his experience in creating his comic and entering the publishing world. NOTE: Answering some questions - Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' was adapted into a comic and self-published by Garen Ewing in 1994. The comic was well-received, and Garen sold on his King Rat website for several years, and other places, as well. About Table Chat host Linda Wada: Ednapurviance.org started in November 2001. Linda, as part of Leading Ladies, published the first book to feature Edna Purviance called The Sea Gull in 2008. The book was about Edna's starring role in the now lost Charlie Chaplin film production, which was directed by Josef von Sternberg. In the summer of 2006, Linda showed her first video interview with Lita Hill (Edna Purviance's grand niece) at Cinecon in Hollywood. Lita was our special guest at the event. In 2006, Leading Ladies also restored the re-discovered films featuring Edna Purviance in private life after her film career with Charlie Chaplin.
